Your First Massage Visit

The Art and Science of Restoring Ease

A massage appointment at Mid-Valley Chiropractic Allied Health Sciences is more than relaxation — it is a collaborative, therapeutic experience between provider and patient. Each muscle, breath, and subtle shift in posture tells a story about how your body adapts and responds to stress. Our goal is to understand not only what feels tight or painful, but why — and to help restore balance through skilled, compassionate care.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Arrive Relaxed, Informed, and Comfortable

To make your first visit smooth and restorative, please bring:

  • A photo ID and any applicable insurance information

  • A list of any medications, allergies, or medical conditions

  • Awareness of areas you’d like to focus on — or avoid — during your session

We kindly ask that you refrain from alcohol, cannabis, or other intoxicants before your appointment. Massage therapy depends on clear communication and physiological safety, and sessions can only proceed when both you and your provider are safe and able to consent fully.

If you have questions about accessibility, mobility, or health conditions, please contact our front desk prior to your visit. Our team is happy to assist with accommodations to ensure your comfort and peace of mind.

How to Prepare and Dress

Your Comfort, Your Choice

Please arrive in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Your massage therapist will guide you through the process of draping and positioning so that you always feel secure and respected.

Patients are encouraged to gown down to the level of their comfort — whether that means remaining partially clothed or undressing completely beneath professional draping. You will always be covered except for the area being treated, and adjustments to draping can be made at any time during the session upon your request.

At Mid-Valley Chiropractic Allied Health Sciences, we maintain a zero-tolerance policy for any indecent, suggestive, or disrespectful remarks or behavior, including comments intended to be humorous. Any such conduct will result in immediate termination of the session and full charges for the scheduled appointment.

Your therapist’s role is clinical, professional, and centered on your wellbeing. Our massage rooms are safe spaces of collaboration, communication, and care.

What to Expect During Your First Visit

Therapeutic Care Tailored to You

Your experience begins in one of our quiet, thoughtfully designed treatment rooms. Your massage therapist will take a brief health history and discuss your goals, preferences, and areas of focus or concern. Every step — from pressure level to positioning — is explained and guided by your consent.

Throughout the session, your provider will check in with you regarding comfort, warmth, pressure, and positioning. You are always encouraged to speak up, request adjustments, or pause treatment at any time.

Massage therapy at our clinic may include a range of techniques such as Swedish, deep tissue, trigger point, myofascial release, or relaxation-based work — each chosen to match your goals and tolerance.

After Your Massage

Supporting Recovery and Integration

Following your session, it’s common to feel relaxed, light, or mildly sore — similar to the feeling after gentle exercise. These effects typically fade within 24–48 hours. To support your body’s natural recovery and circulation:

  • Drink plenty of water to aid lymphatic drainage

  • Allow yourself rest or gentle movement afterward

  • Avoid intense exercise or alcohol for the remainder of the day

  • Apply light heat or stretching if minor soreness occurs

If you experience any unusual discomfort, please contact our office. Your therapist can provide guidance or modify future sessions to better support your needs.

For Those New to Massage Therapy

Common Questions and Concerns

Will it hurt?
Pressure and technique are always tailored to your comfort level. Massage should never cause sharp or lingering pain. You remain in full control and can request adjustments at any time.

Do I have to remove all clothing?
No. You may remain as clothed or unclothed as you wish. Professional draping ensures your privacy and comfort throughout.

Is it safe if I have a medical condition or injury?
In most cases, yes — but please inform your therapist of any injuries, surgeries, or health conditions. We can adapt techniques to ensure your safety.

Can I speak during the session?
Yes. Some clients prefer quiet; others benefit from brief dialogue. We honor your preferences.

What if I need to reschedule?
We request 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling so that other patients may access care.
